Ullapool is a fishing port on the north west coast of the Highlands. There have been settlements around the coast of the region for thousands of years but the village today was established in 1788 as a herring port. The original part of the village where Rosslyn Cottage is located was designed by Thomas Telford and is now a conservation area.
Modern day Ullapool is still a busy fishing port and ferry terminal for the Hebrides but also a thriving tourist destination as it is only one hour from Inverness and a great base to explore the highlands.
The village boasts a number of festivals of dance, books, music and guitar and there are often bands and musicians playing around the bars throughout the year.
